Restoration Facility

The Restoration Facility is in a 25,000 square foot former warehouse aboard MCAS Miramar.

The Flying Leathernecks are appreciative of the fact that successive MCAS Miramar Commanders have understood the need to restore these historic aircraft and provided a first class facility for that purpose!

The following photos show the equipment used in the restoration process.

Parts Replication Equipment
The machinery shown in this photo are capable of creating any part needed to replace worn out or badly corroded parts. The Command Museum has employees and volunteers fully trained to use this equipment.

Tool Room
In addition to owning the finest equipment to make parts and panels, the Museum Tool Room is first class!

The rubber meets the road in our Paint Booth.

Paint Booth
We’ll admit that it doesn’t look impressive, but the Museum Paint Booth meets all environmental requirements for turning out a first class paint job.

Inside the Paint Booth
Shown here, is the TBM being repainted. The restoration of our TBM was much more complicated than first thought, as the corrosion was extensive and in some cases severe. We expect it to be back on display in February, 2007.

Masking off areas that do not receive paint and sanding for a smooth finish is a detailed process.
